Festa de Sant Medir a Gracia

1st weekend of March and it's the start of spring. What a great time to be in Barcelona. The city seems to wake up at last from its winter slumber. At Gracia, a great neighbourhood where we are staying, the festival of Sant Medir has started. This consists of groups of processions with horses and riders, drummers & musicians and most importantly, people throwing out free candy for all to pick!

It's noisy, fun, involving the crowd, both young and old. It was Russell's first time seeing horses to close up adn the noise of the drums, trumpets and the crowd. But it was good fun and Russell especially loved it when candy was thrown. Check out our youtube posting to hear his laughter.
I'm clearly enjoying spring here.
Look at the bags of candies!! Almost the entire procession was carrying bags of such candies and giving them out liberally. There were at least 7-10 groups of these guys going through all the small lanes of Gracia in different directions and spreading cheer. Once you hear them, the children will all converge towards them. Even the old are here.
